HERE THEY GO AGAIN

NewsMax, that is...

"Dean Claims Iraq War Gaffe Taken 'Out of Context'"

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/12/8/95439.shtml

"Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean said Thursday his assertion that the United States cannot win the war in Iraq was reported "a little out of context,""

That's the lead for this little jewel from slant, inc. reporting on an interview of Dean by CNN...

Seizing on an opportunity to get in a dig aimed at the President, Dean insisted ""They kind of cherry-picked that one the same way the president cherry-picked the intelligence going into Iraq.""

I think he's been studying George Carville...

Predictably, NewsMax then goes on to use the same out of context quote:

""The idea that we're going to win this war is an ideal that unfortunately is just plain wrong...""

What's just plain wrong is the quote...

As I related on this page in "Dean on Iraq: The Rest of the Story" 12-6-05, the more complete and therefore less biased quote is:

"I don't believe in making the same mistake twice, and America appears to have made the same mistake twice" ... [alluding to Vietnam] ... "I wished President Bush had paid more attention to the history of Iraq. The idea that we're going to win in Iraq is just plain wrong."

The entire original interview can be found here:

Make up your own mind.

So let's see... It isn't a claim, it's a fact, and it wasn't a gaffe - a social or diplomatic blunder - but promoting the clip-quote NewsMax chooses to promote probably qualifies as a blunder - it certainly won't advance their position...

Two truth points for Dean, zero for Carl Limbacher...

Limbacher must have one really long and one really short leg... It's the only way he could stay upright with that much of a slant under him...

Comments:
He said what he said, I don't believe that the context in which he said it changes it one bit, the guy is looney.

Why is this any different from extracting “The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.” from the State of Union address and going on the offensive.

Roadkill Boy,

Ok, so you used the more complete quote from Howlin' Howie, but how does the broadened context actually change the meaning of that last sentence? It doesn't! He still intended to say that we are not going to win in Iraq.

True, if he has his way we will lose in Iraq because you can't win if you don't show up for the second half in a football game just as if we pull out of Iraq prematurely, it will descend into civil war and, just like Vietnam, we will not achieve the victory against militant Islam that needs to occur.

DunnerMeister

P.S. How exactly to do you get off pretending that you're in the "middle" when all you espouse is the Leftist/Democrat line?

Peek-a-boo, we see you (for what you really are)...

Ha ha ha!! Dean opens his mouth and as usual sticks both feet inside and you defend this raving lunatic! Roadkill you must still have the tires over your head and think you can still see.

Dean is without a doubt a seditious traitor who should be brought up on charges along with his fellow crony's Kerry, Kennedy, Murtha, Pelosi, Durbin and on and on.

The Democrats have decided to twist JFK's famous line on what you can do 'for' your country, to what you can do 'to' your country. They think that's admirable. It is if you want to divide and conquer, but it isn't if you want the best for America.

Send Dean and his minions to Cuba and let them run alongside like minded Castro. We could send a boat load of liberals on a daily basis so we can once again be liberated from that digressive bunch of Democrats.
